Our Story

Founded in 2017 by Jeanie Shuck, Firefly Adventures offers experiential character and leadership development classes, workshops, retreats, and camps for the youth and adults of the Northwest Indiana area.  We believe everyone can learn how to incorporate the value of respect, honesty, integrity, and empathy into everyday life through building connection and self-confidence.. Through cultivating the awareness that everyday actions matter, one develops a deeper sense of pride in who they are and who they want to become.  Jeanie earned her bachelors in Recreation & Outdoor Leadership from Indiana University and is currently working towards a Masters in Education in Experiential Learning and Development through Plymouth State University. She has been in the education field at the elementary and middle school level over the past twenty years, while also taking time to raise her four incredible children alongside her husband, Jeff.

Testimonials

Joshua Bishop, The Carriage House Dining Room and Gardens

I can't tell you enough how valuable this instruction is to children. To be honest Jeanie teaches a lost art form. I have seen her students grow first hand as host to her bi-annual ettiquette luncheons. Not only are the children gracious but most importantly attentive to others around them.

Dennis Zeedyk, Father of 3

All three of our children attended Etiquette Camp. Within two days, I saw a solid improvement in the youngest two in how they interacted with my wife & others -- mostly by saying please & thank you more. Also while at the camp, the oldest wrote a long-overdue thank you note & sent it out without me having to remind him. The older kids discussed dating tips and cyber-bullying -- something easier to cover by a trained professional than their parents. All three were taught how to do a proper introduction and hand-shake, as well as offering your seat to the elderly & pregnant women. While many of the things they went over were common sense, it was very good for them to hear it from others in a proper setting, which encourages them to do it more often. Well worth the cost and my oldest son said he saw value in it.

Mara Orrico, Girl Scout Leader

We had Firefly come in and give our Brownie Girl Scout troop a course on proper table etiquette -- just in time for the holidays. The girls loved it & were reciting their new knowledge immediately after the class! I really appreciate how it all comes from a place of love, and using manners to show your love for the people you care for, such as the people making and hosting your holiday meals. What a great service!

April Ludwig, The Firefly Experience

I was lucky enough to attend the women’s retreat in the fall of 2018. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The women I met were all unique and had so much to share. The day gave us all such a great outlook on life as well as some added confidence. Jeanie Shuck’s talents are beyond words. She guided us in sharing our feelings and goals. Each portion of the day built on the last and left us ready to tackle the world! She is inspiring, kind and an amazing leader. My day spent with these ladies inspired me to follow my dream of playing/singing for a crowd. I can’t tell you what a gem this program is…. especially its' leader!

Nick Rave, Senior Vice President Northwestern Medicine

I took my leadership team to Firefly Adventures for a day of team building. I could not have been more pleased with the "adventure"! Wonderful setting, great activities and our group leader, Jeanie Shuck, was the icing on the cake. Very successful day. Highly recommend.

As a side note, I also enrolled my grandchildren in the Etiquette class. The class was a great balance between learning and fun! To this day (class was a year ago) grandkids are still talking about it and putting their "discoveries" into use on a daily basis! This was a gift that will provide a lifetime of benefits.

Dr. Lori Risser, Parent

Both of my daughters attended Firefly Leadership Camp; one as a Junior Leader, and the other as a camper. They both had a blast, learned a lot, and loved being outside in such a beautiful setting. Jeanie does such a great job encouraging personal reflection, growth as an individual, and building leadership skills. I would highly recommend this camp and my kids are already planning to attend again next year!

JWAS Collaborates with Firefly Adventures

image53

JWAS is thrilled to announce our partnership with Jeanie Shuck and Firefly Adventures. Our goal together over the next year is two-fold. We will create a roadmap to measure the progress and educational development of each Scholar.  We will also create curriculum and instruct character development programs serving the scholars and families, based on their current needs. Through this partnership, we will be able to address the specific social, emotional, and academic needs of each Jaxson Scholar and instill a deeper level of support for all that are involved. We are already making great progress and look forward to sharing more outcomes with you later this year on our Facebook page, Firefly Adventures.
